Year: XXXX Earth Year: 1664 Location: Divertimento It was such a beautiful time of day. Both of the suns were positioned at an ideal angle, and were perfectly parallel to one another. The dusky light they gave off was making the region seem as if it were glowing, giving it an almost magical feel. It would remain like this for a time before slowly turning back into that gloomy, dimly lit world it always was. Twilight was eternal here. A day such as this, was nothing new to the Nocturne. They would walk down the serene streets that were forever bathed in twilight. They would amble in and out of the many stores that would always be obscured by a veil of shadows. And as they went, they were never in a hurry; never even felt rushed. Such was life here. Calm, tranquil, perfect. At this moment, however, amidst the shadowy buildings, the streets were nearly bare. There weren't many people about, and for a reason. The afternoon 'rush' was over, and they were all starting to head back home for the evening. However, just like every day, there were still the stragglers, taking their time, walking leisurely, chatting with an acquaintance or two as they made their way home. So absorbed were they in their conversations that they barely noticed anything around them. Which was fine. Sometimes it was good to go by unnoticed. Fidgeting with a lock of white hair, a lone Nocturne was skulking against the side of a building. He paced in a small circle, giving everyone who walked by him a suspicious glare. Although what there was to be suspicious about, even he didn't know. Must be some freaky paranoia thing that was getting to him. Though naturally most of the passerby simply ignored him, and the ones who did notice, didn't take a second glance. What was so strange about a Nocturne lurking around the outside of a building? Getting impatient, Hendrix cast a glance back at the sun behind him. No, it wasn't even time yet. But it would be soon. Right now, he just had to wait. Wait... It seemed as though he was always waiting. But he knew it'd be worth it in the end. It was always worth the wait. Out of the 15 years he'd been alive, he must have spent the last 4 waiting outside this building. Maybe 5. And he was out there every day, at the exact same time. Without fail. It was like a favorite pastime of his. Well, not the waiting, but rather, the reward he got because of his waiting. He clasped his hands together with a sigh. Almost time now. Another, quick glance at the sun and he strolled around to the front of the building. Casually leaning against the stair railing, he acted as though he was supposed to be there as he turned his attention away, looking down the streets. It wasn't the building that held his attention. Rather, it was what passed by in front of it. Several more, older Nocturne passed by just then, annoying him just slightly as he waited for them to move aside so that he'd be able to view the streets again. No sooner had they stepped off of the path that a group of three girls came into view on the other side of the street, strolling down the path, idly chatting with each other. Finally. This was what he had been waiting for. It was easy to see who was in charge there. She walked slightly ahead of them - one girl on either side of her - as they conversed. Although she didn't seem as if she were fully invested in the conversation. She never was. She didn't need to listen to all of those ridiculous rumors and gossip that they seemed to thrive on. She was better than that. And she was his target. His claws digging into his arm, he watched as she walked, mesmerized by her movements, as he waited for her to look his way. Something must have been on her mind, as she appeared to be rather preoccupied. However, just at that moment, she seemed to remember something and she immediately glanced toward him. Feeling his heart beat even faster, he gave her a reptilian smile accompanied by a short wave - a gesture that she promptly returned with a giggle. And with that, she turned back to her friends, trying to catch up with the conversation once again as he, satisfied, simply watched her leave. With a content sigh, he turned to head for home. All these years, and every day he'd wait here. Wait for her. Faye was her name. Faye. Such a pretty name too. There were hardly ever any words exchanged - hell, he couldn't be sure if she even knew his name - but it never felt like they needed words. That simple gesture was enough for him. He looked forward to those ten seconds every day, and as long as he had that, he was content. She wants you, you know.
Hendrix stumbled a bit as the voice echoed inside of his head, though he quickly regained himself. He looked up and down the road, hoping there was someone else there and hoping that they had been the one who spoke. There was no one, of course. He was alone in the streets. Mostly alone, at least. With a shake of his head, he simply continued to walk as if nothing had happened.
Why do you fight it? You want her too.
He ran a hand through his hair, silencing the voice momentarily. Thankfully, that usually worked. If he was doing something, anything at all, that gave him something else to concentrate on. That was why he usually tried to keep busy, though sometimes he was still unable to keep the voices away. And unfortunately, very brief actions like that never had a lasting effect.
Stop fighting. You want her, so take her.
Shut up, He finally growled.
You want her. You do. So take the whore and-
Don't talk about her like that.
Oh my. He has an attitude today.
Very unbecoming.
We're your friends.
Just trying to help.
I don't want your help. Now shut up.
With that, they finally fell silent. They could prove to be a rather large annoyance at times, though he could handle them. They were always chatting with each other, talking about him, trying to get him to do stuff... But they never succeeded. He was stronger than that. They could try to provoke him as much as they wanted, but he would never listen to them. That just wasn't the type of guy he was.
Although he did wonder, at times... Just what it would be like if he did listen. It was tempting to try something... Just once. But no. He'd never. That would be like telling them that they've won. Even if he was curious, his hatred for those voices far outweighed his curiosity. Besides, it wasn't like he could ever really do anything. Not to anyone and especially not to her.
He'd never let that happen. Never.[/blockquote]

Year: XXXX Earth Year: 1664 Location: Divertimento He had to wonder... How long had it been since he first heard those voices? It had been such a long time... He couldn't even remember when it started. Perhaps they had always been there, from the moment he was born until right now. Hendrix couldn't remember a time when he was alone. They were always there with him; even when they weren't talking, he could still feel their presence. They were particularly obnoxious when he was alone. Well, he never was really alone, but when it was just him and them... How could he not pay attention to them? But it was what it was. He couldn't change anything, so he could only deal with it. Sure, their constant efforts to influence him were annoying, but it was just another part of life. For him, at least. He never knew any better. There was a time when he was convinced that everyone heard those voices. It didn't make sense that only he should hear something while no one else did. Though it was strange how everyone else was so good at ignoring them. They just went about their business as if they didn't hear anything at all. There must have been a reason for why they did that, of course, but no one ever told him what that was. No one ever told him if he should listen to the voices or... Hell, they never even told him what they were. And why not? It seemed kind of important to know, but they must have had a reason for that too, and so Hendrix decided simply to learn through experience. He didn't think anyone else did the types of things that they wanted him to do, so he decided to ignore them. Easier said than done, but he'd managed somehow. Though he did have a rather difficult time in getting them to shut up. When ignoring them didn't work, he'd resort to arguing with them in his mind, though there were times when things got so heated that he'd end up physically yelling at them. Luckily, times like these only occurred when he was alone with them. Of course, it was only a matter of time before he finally began to put all the pieces together. He had lived with these voices for years, and it still wasn't any easier to ignore them. The others, even others his own age still acted as if they never heard anything. There could only be one explanation for that: they really didn't hear anything. Them... Those voices weren't normal. He wasn't normal. But why him? Why did they bother him and no one else? What had he ever done? What should he do now? Countless questions swirled around in his head from the minute he realized that he was different and he hadn't been able to answer a single one of them. And he'd never asked anyone else, no of course not! He was a freak. He wouldn't let anyone know about them. So the only ones left to answer his questions were the voices themselves. The most potential.
Of course we would choose you!
Just want to help you unlock that potential.
Don't think of us as a curse, no... No.
We could become great...
You just need to listen.
Just do everything you're compelled to do. That's all.
It will be good for you.
It will be good for everyone. That was what they claimed, and yet he chose to disregard them. He already knew that they were liars, so it would be stupid to listen to them at all. And yet a part of him actually wanted to listen to them for some reason. He couldn't be certain of what that reason was... Perhaps they were finally starting to get to him. Not that it mattered. He was still in control here, and that's how it was going to stay. Hendrix contemplated this as he sat, slouched against the wall of a building, carelessly flipping a pebble in between his fingers. Another, instinctive look down the street revealed no one, of course. Despite the lucid twilight that still covered the town, it was well into the midnight hours. And while others were asleep in their homes so contentedly, he sat outside, down the street, in the cold as he simply waited for the morning to come. This was far from unusual for him, however. As long as they were with him, he was never at peace for long, especially not while he was asleep. They infiltrated his dreams, forcing him to acknowledge them, and it seemed as though they were even able to manipulate his dreams. They were always so horrible and sickening... They could even be worse than what he had to deal with during the day. And so he came up with the perfect solution: don't sleep. If you don't sleep, you don't dream, and it wasn't as if he needed a lot of sleep. Hendrix had been living off of only 2 hours of sleep every night for years and he couldn't feel many ill effects. With a sigh, he closed his eyes; not sleeping, merely waiting. Opportunity... Stifling a growl, he opened his eyes, looking down the street to make sure that it was still empty. We could strike now... They are sleeping.
Quiet.
They can't understand you.
Make them acknowledge you.
Make them pay.
Suffer.
They will know your name.
They all will.
Pay... Pay for what?
They plan your downfall.
Right now.
They want to destroy you.
Don't let them.
Destroy them first!
You're lying.
Of course not.
They sense the power within you.
They're afraid of what you- what we can do.
So show them what we can do.
Stop it! I don't have any 'power'. I'm not any different than-
You don't really believe that. Breathing heavily, he sat up straighter, silently cursing them for invading his mind. They knew, of course. They new everything that he was thinking and they used that against him. Yes, he was different. Yes, he felt these weird... Urges. But it was nothing! He could handle it. He wouldn't listen to them; he didn't want to. Really.Really?
... Yes.
Now, don't lie to us. We know all about your desires.
How you want to hurt them.
How you want her- "Shut up!" He growled, his anger immediately flaring up. He was on his feet now, facing the wall as if he had an actual person cornered there. The bastards... They knew just what to say to get him agitated. But it's true.
Just how you want her to- "No."Because then you could-"Stop it!"And she would- "No... No, no!"Make her cry...
Scream...
Beg..."No... Shut up! Damn it, just shut up!" He was gasping for breath, his hands trembling as he attempted to clear his mind. He didn't want to think at all; didn't want to give them anything else to use against him. His mind just needed to go blank right now so he could calm down. Then he'd be fine... "... Hendrix?"He started at the sound of a voice from somewhere behind him, forgetting his anger immediately. Hendrix spun around, stumbling back a bit as he faced the older Nocturne watching him curiously from the foot of the steps leading into the building. He recognized him immediately. Though they had never had more than a fleeting conversation, Hendrix was fairly certain that he worked in that building- as a sort of government official... Wait... Work? How long had he been out here?
Suddenly nervous, he took several more steps back, looking around suspiciously. How long had he been there? Had he heard? And there would be others soon too. This wasn't good... What would they think? What should he do now... Well, maybe he hadn't heard after all."Are... You alright, kid?""Um... Yes, sir. Just out... Walking, and... Yeah.""Alright..." He nodded, skeptically, "It just sounded like... Like you were having a pretty heated debate a minute ago."Hendrix was about to respond, before he realized that he didn't know how to. Grinding his teeth together, he looked around the area, as if he hoped to find a solution to his problems there. How was he supposed to talk his way out of this?"Are you sure you're alright? Who were you talking to?""I... Um... Myself?""Yourself? Listen, kid, if something's bothering you, we might be able to help," He spoke not out of concern, but more like a morbid sort of curiosity.
Hendrix paused for a moment, considering this. For much of his life, he felt as though he had to hide this... 'Problem' of his. But what if that was the wrong way to go about things? What if he wasn't the only one like this. What if there was someone out there he could actually help... What if there was a way to make them stop once and for all?
He contemplated this and more as he simply stood there, eyes fixed on the ground as if in a trance. Well, if he was gonna tell someone, it might as well be the government. After all, they were supposed to help people, right?
"I was talking to... Them.""Them?" He repeated, confused, "And where are they?""They're... Here," He said reluctantly, tapping his head."They're..." The official spoke before suddenly comprehending the meaning of his words, taking a small, almost unnoticeable step back as he did, "You... Hear voices?""Yeah... But not all the time! Like, they aren't talking now-""What do the voices tell you, Hendrix?""Uh, well... They tell me to... Do things," He responded carefully, in an effort to sidestep the question."What kind of things?""Like- They- Well... They want me to, um, hurt people?" He said quietly, unsure of how to word it to make it seem as though it wasn't really that bad, "But- But I can ignore them just fine! I never listen, ever, and it's... It's okay."
The official simply nodded, smiling kindly as if he understood, though he continued to take several steps back. It almost seemed as though he were afraid. Maybe they were right... No, he couldn't start thinking like that. Not now.
Then, at that moment, he seemed to remember that he actually needed to enter the building, and so he quickly trotted up the stairs, grabbing the door handle. He then turned back slightly to speak to Hendrix, although he looked toward the ground rather than look directly at him"I'll speak to some people. Don't worry, we'll figure something out.""Oh... Alright," He responded, unsure about how to take his words, "But, um... It's going to be okay, right? I'm going to be okay?"
The only response he received from the official was another stiff nod, though he still didn't look at him. With that, he entered the building, slamming the door shut behind him.
Left only to wonder if he had made the right choice, Hendrix stared at the door for awhile before turning and walking swiftly away. Everything was going to be fine. He had to believe that. And yet... He just couldn't shake that ominous feeling that something really bad was going to happen.
That was probably just paranoia... Right?

Year: XXXX Earth Year: 1664 Location: Unknown Darkness. Nothing but darkness. Everywhere. Intruding, suffocating. There was no where to run, no where to hide- he could barely move. He had to get away, but how? The walls were closing in around him, crushing him. He couldn't think, couldn't see, couldn't breathe. All he was certain about was that he had to get out, but that was impossible. He couldn't escape. But he couldn't stay- he just couldn't! Can't stay, can't leave... Can't stay, but Can't leave... Can't stay, must leave but... how? HOW?! They were supposed to help... Supposed to help, right? That's what they said, he heard them say it! So why didn't they? Or were they? But how could they? And why did this have to happen to him? It wasn't as if he chose to be like this. This wasn't his fault! If anything, he had helped them! What if the voices found someone else instead - someone weaker. Someone who couldn't control them, not like he could. In a way, he was keeping the world safe from them, so why would they punish him? "Don't worry, we have the perfect solution." That's what they said. They said they were going to help him. How were they helping? Well, they must be somehow... Right? Of course, why would they lie. But why didn't it seem to be helping? Why hadn't they been stopped by now. Or maybe it would take a little longer. But there should have been some difference now. Or maybe that too will take some time. Maybe they were still trying to figure out how to help him. Yeah, that must be it. And now he just had to wait until they found that solution. That was okay, he could wait..."Prison? No, I assure you, it's quite different. He's just going away for awhile."
"But... I don't want to-"
"Trust us." Trust us, they said. And he had. He had to trust that they would make everything better. He had to be patient and wait. But for how long? He didn't want to wait any longer. They said they'd help. He wanted the help now. Why the hell weren't they helping?! No, patience. He needed to be patient. That's all."This will be good for everyone."
Good for everyone...
"NO!" In a moment, Hendrix was on his feet, stumbling backwards and grasping at the wall for support. He was breathing heavily, so much so that he was making himself lightheaded. Leaning weakly against the wall, he looked through the darkness at the four walls encasing him in this tiny room. When they first locked him up in here, there had been a small bed, however, he had completely destroyed that on his first day. Not out of rage, but rather simply as something to do. There had also been a lamp, but that met the same fate as the bed on the second day, so now the room was bathed in a constant, overpowering darkness. How long... How long had he been here? Months? No... Had it really only been one week? That... That couldn't be right. It felt like so much longer. Then again, he didn't have much of a sense of time here, and it wasn't as if he could ask anyone. He hadn't spoken to anyone since his confinement began. Perhaps that was part of the solution. They're lying to you. Hendrix shook his head, refusing to believe them, "No, you're wrong. Why would they? It doesn't make sense!" Although it sounded like he was speaking moreso to try and convince himself of that rather than them. You're not that stupid. You know.
We tried to warn you.
They locked you up because it makes them feel safer.
They don't even know what we're capable of.
That scares them.
They're afraid of you.
Of us.
We need to show them why they fear us. Hendrix began pacing in a small circle, looking wildly around at his surroundings. He didn't want to listen to them anymore, but they just wouldn't stop talking. There must be a way out somewhere! However, there weren't any windows, nothing that even remotely looked like an exit. All that there was was the giant, locked door that showed no promises of opening from this side. Well, maybe it wasn't as solid as it looked. Maybe he could...
No! Patience, damn it, patience. Everything would be fine. In fact, they were probably gonna let him out today. Or in a few days at the most. Yeah... He wouldn't be in here for any longer than another week. That didn't sound so bad. He could handle that.Enough of those foolish delusions!
Those bastards aren't going to let us out.
Even you know that by now.
They're just going to let you rot in here. Unless you listen to us.
If he doesn't listen, he dies. Simple as that. Without warning, the flung himself across the room, colliding with the door. Clawing and pounding on the door with all of his strength, he screamed for someone - anyone, he didn't care who - to let him out. Unfortunately, his pleas fell on deaf ears, for if anyone was able to hear him through the massive door, they chose to ignore him. That still didn't stop him from trying, of course, and he continued his attack. He couldn't stay there any longer, not when it was just him and them. He would go crazy listening to them, he just knew it.
Although, what choice did he have? There was no way out as he realized when his energy had finally depleted and he still hadn't made a single dent in the door. He was trapped in there... He was probably going to die in there.
Sliding to the ground, he slumped against the wall, defeated, as he focused on simply breathing steadily. He barely noticed the searing pain shooting up his arms until he looked down, finally noticing how badly he seemed to have mangled his hands in his assault on the door. Wincing, he picked away a few loose pieces of skin, revealing the raw flesh beneath it. Then, clasping them together despite the pain, he hugged his legs close to his body, resting his chin on his knees. You see what they've done to you?
"Quiet."
They never cared about you, anyway.
"Just stop..."
Just listen to us.
"Please..."
This is their fault.
We will make them suffer.
We will give them a reason to fear us.
Then we will become immortal.
Then we can do everything we want to do.
If you just listen.
Listen... Listen... Maybe he should just listen. Why bother to resist it anymore? All those years of opposing them had gotten him where? Alone in a box miles from home. What if he had listened to them from the beginning? Maybe his life would have been as great as they claimed it would be. But since he was trapped in here it was probably too late now... Maybe?
With a sigh, Hendrix closed his eyes, listening to those restless voices echoing inside if his head. Maybe it was too late, but he didn't want to fight anymore.

Year: XXXX Earth Year: 1674 Location: Unknown Silence. It was strange to think that silence even existed in his world anymore, and yet, it did. They always knew when to be quiet, when to leave him alone with only his own thoughts, just like they always knew when they needed to speak. However, they were always there when he needed them. Whenever he had questions or doubts, or even when he just needed comfort. It was a nice feeling to know that he was never alone. He had been locked away in this room for Gods know how long, but he had never been alone. Countless hours, days, years, he had spent having a multitude of conversations with them. They'd gone over every subject imaginable, from life to love to death. And they always gave the best words of advice as well. He was lucky to have them. If it hadn't been for them, he'd have surely gone mad! Although at this moment, he felt as alone as he possibly could anymore, as he laid, splayed out upon the ground, staring up at the ceiling. He folded his hands over his chest, breathing evenly, his gaze unblinking. He remained like that for some time in total silence. There was still complete darkness in the room, though after all those years his eyes had adjusted quite well. Though there was no source of light, he was able to see as if the room was shrouded in twilight rather than darkness. Of course... It had been so long... He could barely even remember what the twilight looked like. Sighing, he turned his head to the side, scanning the walls of his barren room until he came upon a form leaning in the corner. They were papers, neatly stacked in a pile: his only contact to the rest of the world. They still allowed him to receive letters, though he was unable to reply to them. Something about corrupting the minds of the citizens. In the beginning of his imprisonment there had been more letters. Family, friends, writing about how life was continuing outside of his cell, offering words of encouragement, promising to write again. Of course, as the years went by there were less and less. He rarely got anything anymore. Although he could trust that he'd receive at least one letter every month or so. From her. In one motion, he was on his feet, snatching the top paper off of the stack, sending the others scattering all across the floor as he sank to the ground again, leaning against the wall. He clutched the letter in trembling hands, his eyes pouring over every word, reading and re-reading just to make sure he didn't miss one word; one letter. She would always write simply to tell him all about how her life was going; she'd never write anything confrontational, never even mentioned his incarceration or what got him there. For a short while, that almost made him feel as if he wasn't locked away, cut off from the outside world. Even after that faded, it was still a nice feeling, to know there was someone out there who still cared. Or did she really?Another read through of the letter left him shaking his head in disbelief. Wincing, as if in pain, he began to trace the "F" in her signature with his thumb as he wondered what it all meant. She liked him, right? She had always liked him; why else would she continue to write after all these years? That made sense, right? But if that was true, why had she found someone else? His grip tightened on the letter as he read through it once more. Why would she tell him about this? About her "someone else". Was this her subtle way of telling him that she wasn't going to wait for him? Or maybe she had decided that he just wasn't good enough for her. By now, the paper had crumpled up between his hands, though he found that he was unable to rip it apart. Instead, he tossed it to the side and rose to his feet once more. Walking over to a wall, he placed his palm flat against it and hung his head, examining his other hand. They were still pretty messed up, having never properly healed the first time since the first time he'd injured them. Since then, he'd made several more attempts to escape, though they all ended in much the same way. It had been quite awhile since he'd tried anything now. His eyes trailing away, across the floor, they came to rest upon the overturned stack of papers against the wall. He stared at it for a moment, then, with a sigh, he knelt down beside it and began compulsively stacking every piece of paper again just like he'd had it, before finally smoothing out Faye's letter and placing it on top. Once he was satisfied with that, he stood up and began to pace around the room, running his hands through his hair as he stared at the floor. ... She still wants you, you know. "Who doesn't?!" He laughed in response.
Of course he knew the truth by now. He was the best there was. Simple as that. Others respected and wanted that, but they also feared it. That was why they had locked him up. They were afraid and yet they still didn't know all that he was capable of. He was better than them. All of them. He was like a god. Of course Faye wanted him. Anyone would be lucky to have him.We need to go to her.
Save her.
Make her acknowledge us. "Yeah, I- I know. But it's not like we can just walk out the door. We've tried that before. Many, many times."You did. We never told you to try such a thing.
You can't afford to be so irrational anymore. "I know, alright?! But I've been good now, just like you told me to."Yes... The fools. They have no idea what's coming.
After all this time they think they've won.
We'll show them.
They will fall. Laughing insanely, he slowly lowered himself to the floor again. They were right. All of them, out there... They must have thought that he'd resigned to this life now. No longer did he charge at the door when it was opened only slightly once a month for them to toss a few letters at him. No longer did they catch him talking to them. No, he had grown smarter now. Whenever the door opened he simply remained sitting against the back wall in silence. They stopped talking when someone was near the door and so he stopped replying.
It wasn't long before the guards began to get complacent. Opening the door just a bit wider than they should. Leaving it open just a bit longer than they should. Risking stepping inside the room so that they could catch a glimpse of him. Probably checking to see if he was dead yet.
All that time, that preparation, all those years of darkness. This is what it led up to. They said that if he just listened to them, he would get out. He would see the outside world again. And he'd be ready for them. He'd kill anyone who opposed him. He'd burn that goddamn city to the ground. He'd take her and-
She would be by his side. Always. He knew what needed to be done now. They told him everything. He had powers far greater than any creature on this planet. None of them were worthy enough to rule, but he was. Anything he ever wanted would be his now. That's what they said. Anything, anyone..."New world... My world. All mine. All of it. Mine..." He continued to mutter, already hallucinating about his new world. He was the best there was, after all. Really, it only made sense that he should be the one to rule. Why hadn't he thought of this before? It would be grand, and everyone would bow before him: the god.And there will be chaos.
"Chaos..."
Death. Destruction.
Pain. Suffering.
"Pain..."
We will be feared.
As we should.
Legends.
Indeed.
Trust us.
"Yes..." Quickly darting across the room, he knelt against the wall, right beside the door. He did trust them. He had no reason not to. After all, they were the only ones who stood beside him. They were the only real friends he had left. He had to trust them. Trust that it would all happen as they described it. He would be free and he would- He would go to her first, of course. The world was next. They would all tremble in fear of his powers.
The world and more would all belong to him! Soon enough... And all of it would start when, deep within the mechanisms of that door came one, loud CLICK!
