Aeryn watched in curiosity as Tarian began to reform the structure of him mind. Aeryn had been wondering what it was in Tarian's mind that had caused him to create such a dark, rough, and rather disheartening form of protection. There was generally a connection between what people used for imagery in their mind their own personality, but Aeryn was starting to wonder if Tarians first choice had simply been a memory that he pulled out as his image of the most unbreakable thing. Now it seemed that Tarian was customizing his mind to match more of who he truly was. Aeryn just stared at him and listened as things began to change. It was a drastic transition from harsh and unforgiving rock to a relaxing setting of a pool surrounded by waterfalls. Aeryn suddenly began to realize that this setting applied to Tarian much better than the other did. Perhaps now Tarian would find his mind a place of strength, where he could fight on his own ground, rather than an undefined mass of memories and danger.
Aeryn had now figured out what kind of creature Tarian was and it explained why he felt so generally unafraid. He was invisible to most. He was a creature that was characterized by gentleness and kindness. It was all starting to make sense. The reason that Tarian was so easy with everyone was because that was simply his nature, the nature that belonged to all of his kind, and Aeryn found himself appreciating Tarian all the more for it. At first he had been tempted to think that Tarian was a simpleton, but now he realized that Tarian was much wiser than most.
It hadn't been long after the renovations had begun that Aeryn began to feel the fatigue that was threatening Tarians every effort, but Aeryn knew that if he stopped Tarian now, all of his hard work to change his mind would be lost. Tarian would just have to struggle through the feelings and finish the work that he started. However, Aeryn knew that when he was finished, he was going to leave Tarians mind. His work here was done for the most part. The only thing that he could help Tarian with now would be practice. Perhaps one day he would call on Tarian to provide him with relief from a headache or something similar.
Aeryn chuckled as Tarian finally remembered that he was still in his mind. "I like it much better than before. To tell you the truth, the former surroundings had me quite puzzled. It didn't really seem to fit you at all, or at least as much as I know of you, but I like this much better. This seems to communicate more to me. I like it much better than most people's minds. this is actually calm, most people have everything going in fifteen different directions."
Aeryn then turned to Tarian, "I believe that my work here is done, and you are quite tired. I have to say, you weren't lying when you said that you are a quick learner. You have learned how to do something that it takes most people weeks to do. I just hope that you never have to use it. Life would be better that way. But if that time ever does come, then you will know how to take care of yourself."
With those words spoken, Aeryn willingly slipped from Tarian's mind. Tarian would have been able to tell the difference, and that slight ache in the back of his mind would have disappeared. When Aeryn's eyes opened, they had a slightly more surreal appearance to them and it took him a moment to get reoriented for the real world. Sometimes Aeryn hated coming back to reality because of the strange sort of vertigo that you experienced when you came back to reality. He hoped that Tarians exit would be much smoother.
