It was a beautiful day outside. There was a gentle breeze that rolled through the mountains with a chilling touch. For once these mountains were pleasant. Usually they had such a bite that it banished all though of coming within it's territory. I could be that the two wanders in this part were father from the middle of the range and more towards the ocean. Whatever was the reason both were enjoying the walk.
Cecily walked along the mountainside with rapt attention being paid to her companion. Both looked related, being of brighter complexion than normal people. Cecily had beautiful porcelain like skin with hair that moved about her in waves. Bright amber eyes shone out and held a mischief within, but also a sharpness. She looked innocent, and kind, but if one knew her they would know the truth. The man beside her, Tarian, Looked down at her like a father would a child and listened pleasantly. He couldn't get a word in edgewise, not that he wanted to. He laughed at her little antics and nodded along with her words to show he was listening. She was such an interesting creature.
Cecily had come out to collect herbs, as usual, Tarian had decided to come along. He used any excuse to get outside and fly. Recently he had been spending more time around Cecily's house, but he didn't know why. Ever since Miriel and Damion returned from their honeymoon he had expected to leave, his duties being done, instead he stayed. He felt like he was needed.
"An that's how I discovered that it was poisonous." She laughed in her usual airy way before looking down at her basket. "We have done well so far Tarian! This should keep me stocked up for some time now." Looking up a little flower caught her eye. It was a purple blossom, hanging down like a little hood. "Oh look! Aconite!" Rushing over and setting her basket beside her she knelt on the ground. Reaching out with her slender fingers she began breaking some of the stems.

Aeryn walked down a small slope, trying to make sure that he didn't slip as he went. He was walking and reading, something that he often did at the same time, but being on an incline made things a little more difficult, so he had to try a little harder than normal. He squinted slightly and pushed his sunglasses up further along the bridge of his nose. Blasted sunlight. It ruined everything. He then shoved his hand into the pocket of his jeans.
It was fairly cool outside and the fact that he was at quite the altitude didn't help the chilly weather. However, despite the fact that the mountains were quite covered with snow, the slight bite of the breeze was nothing to what it could have been. Aeryn liked to come up here and read because no one was ever around. After all, what person in their right mind would come up into freezing cold temperature of their own free will. Aeryn didn't mind it because he could change forms and fly into one of the caves on the mountainside. It was nice to have fur.
He knew that he was coming somewhere close to the shoreline, but he had no idea how close. As long as he didn't fall over the edge, everything was fine. He pulled his hand out of his pocket and ran it sideways through his hair, sweeping some hairs that were annoying him to the side. For some reason, his hair was always just long enough to get in his eyes and annoy him, but just short enough to where it merited no need of a cut. He shoved his hand back into his pocket and walked on. He was currently reading a copy of the Illiad in the original Greek. It was much harder to read this way, but it was so much better. You found things that the translators simply couldn't translate to the English version. It truly was a magnificent work of art.
It wasn't long however, until he heard voices. There was a woman talking very animatedly to a man not to far from him. For a moment, Aeryn thought of leaving and avoiding them altogether, but then he decided to stay. It was time to have beak from his Greek. He looked up over the book and saw that the man and woman were not far away. They both had very similar appearances. Light hair, light complexions, if he hadn't known better he would have thought them brother and sister. However, where the mans hair was white, the womans seemed to have a silvery essence to it. An image of the little silver fox he had met in the woods a while ago popped into his head. He rolled his eyes and shoved the picture aside. He knew that eventually, he was going to have to find her again. She was simply too intriguing to leave alone.
When he was upon them, he finally lowered his book and looked at the pair through his shades. The girl was on the ground picking some flowers. Aeryn surveyed the scene for a moment before realizing something very familiar. A basket of various plants, a girl with silver hair, and Aconite, which was in an herbalists line of favorites.
He raised an eyebrow before saying, "You know it really is cruel to rip them away from their happy home." He put his middle finger in the book to keep him place and held it closed with his thumb and palm.

Cecily shifted her eyes to the new figure. There was something familiar about the way he carried himself, the air about him, and his voice. Something very familiar. She had an idea but she wasn't sure. This didn't bother her one bit. She would find out, that was for sure. "Not so." She smirked and turned back toward the others and swiftly took another stem of the poisonous flower. "If I leave some then they will drift away to their death slowly, and shrivel away into nothingness. If I take them by this manner. " She plucked another stem. "Then they can actually be put to some use." Her eyes studied her handful with pleasure before she put them gently into her basket. It was obvious that she took pride in her work. He basket was overflowing, but the stems and flowers weren't mixed and muddled, but arranged in an elegant and eye appealing manner. To anyone who didn't know Cecily like Tarian, it would seem like she was just gathering flowers to decorate her house. Standing up she brushed the miniscule amount of dirt that was sprinkled on her dress until it was spotless. It was then that she eyes the newcomer with a alluring smirk and glittering eyes. "Tarian you might want to watch out, we have a bookworm in our midst. It seems that he wishes to have an adventure. Perhaps he imagines himself to be Achilles, we must always keep an eye on his ankle. Perhaps it is his weak spot."
Tarian just shook his head at Cecily and turned to the newcomer. He was a darker sort of fellow, though not nearly as dark as Neron or the lovely Jaedon. Still there was something Tarian wasn't sure of. He let his blue eyes look at the man. With a gentle smile he stated, "No Cecily, I do not think we have the son of a Nymph, but rather a scholar on our hands."
Cecily sighed, "I suppose you are right. He's not nearly handsome enough to be anyone of importance." Her words were laden with sarcasm.
Tarian shook his head again and let his eyes drift back to the book. "Literate in Greek I see. Well my chap, that is quite an accomplishment eh?'

"And what use may that be?" Aeryn asked with an even tone.
As he listened to her talk, Aeryn became almost one hundred percent certain that she was indeed the little Kitsune that he had met in the woods. He wouldn't be sure until he entered her mind though. As he thought about it, he slowly began to seep in the tiniest little cracks as slowly as possible. He was just beginning to see things when the man came up to him. According to the woman his name was Tarian, unless that was a strange nickname of some sort. The name that he spit out confirmed all of Aeryn's assumptions and he stopped his mind meddling for a moment. So it was the Kitsune. How fortunate. A slight smirk came over his face as the man continued to talk. It stayed there until Cecily began speaking again.
"And you are not nearly wise enough to judge character. Think of all the wonderful new concoctions you don't know about because you were too blinded by the dullness of a cover," his tone was quite even but his blue eyes looked at Cecily very steadily. He was watching her every action.
His eyes strayed from the girl only when the man approached him. "Yes, I suppose it is something small. Are you one who appreciates such things? Surely an Englishman can't turn down good literature. Much of the best came from your own countrymens' pens." His tone was polite and steady, but inwardly, Aeryn was wondering if this man would turn to be an interesting subject for experiment. It was strange for most people to look at people as walking experiments, but Aeryn had a natural curiosity. He found that telepathy was simply like performing an autopsy on a live patient and so much more fruitful. He had a scientists mind and kludde's power. What more could any self-deserving seeker of truth want?

"If I told you." Cecily looked at him with a teasing sort of tone. "Then I would have to kill you." It was almost a challenge the way she said it, but one could never be to sure with her. She held the basket behind her with both hands and swayed back and forth like a young child would. It was strange how charming and innocent she could look when she wanted to. Her skirt swirled around her as she swayed. The blouse she wore was white and frilly with lace in just the right places. Her skirt was a gentle gold color that brought out her eyes and showed off her figure. Around her ears were earrings that clinked together with delightful notes. It was like a sort of wind chime, though more subtle.
As he talked about not being wise Her eyes only brightened more. It was him, she was sure, no one else would talk to her in such a manner, it even alluded back to their last conversation. "Ah, but I believe I have seen you on the inside have I not? Plus if one cannot get a good cover what is this use? Remember it is not just the picture that is seen, but usually a statement about the content within. Plus I never said the cover was dull." She let her eyes gaze drift about his figure. A smirk showed on her face and she flicked her eyes up to his and held them there.
Tarian let his gaze drift from one to the other, they seemed to know each other. There was something going on beneath all this chin-wagging. It looked like he was going to be the third wheel. It didn't bother him to much, after all he liked observing. 'I do believe I am. There is much to be learned from books pages. I am glad to find someone who appreciates the finer things of life and is willing to admit it." He let his eyes drift to Cecily and then back to Aeryn. "She's a good deal more cultured than you may think." Cecily just continued to sway and watch the two. Tarian let his attention remain on Aeryn. "Tell me sir, what is your name?"
"Why that would get rid of all the mystery. I'll give you a clue. I believe it starts with an A." Cecily's voice was playful but then it turned smooth, "Tell me Mr. A have you had a delightful silver image in your mind lately? I hear those who wander out to late sometimes get such an image engrained in their mind."

Aeryn gave her a knowing look. "And you have answered my question without even meaning to." They both knew what those plants were for. Whether it be poison or medicine, there was simply no way that Aeryn would ever willingly put anything liquid or solid that she gave him in his mouth.
He gave her a strange look as she began to sway back and forth. "I'm afraid it's not the books fault for the publishers lack of creativity." His eyes sparkled as he continued, "My dear girl, I am afraid I have seen more inside of you than you have of me."
He then turned to the man, "We must be confusing you terribly. My name is Aeryn Cel. I have met Cecily before, thus the reason for all of this confusing banter." He cast a look at Cecily, "And for your information, the only time I recall seeing a silver image in my mind was when I was remembering the beauty of the moon on a pitch black night. Those who would be haunted by images have no control over the mind or of the body."
He then returned his attention to Tarian, "How long have you known each other to have such faith in her?" It was obvious that Aeryn was putting on mock skepticism, as though it would hardly be believable that anyone would have faith in Cecily at all.

"I'm glad to have satisfied you for once." Her eyes narrowed slightly, "Perhaps sometimes you will be able to test some of my talent in herbs. Tarian loves it."
"It is when the publisher and book are one in the same don't you think?" It was true most mythical creatures chose what they looked like. Others allowed their subconscious to take control. Cecily's human figure was a mystery, it fit her perfectly. Perhaps it was a mixture of both. When he talked about seeing more inside of her then she had seen inside of him she just smirked, "Oh, I think that could be debatable."
Tarian smiled at the man, glad he seemed civil. Atleast to him "I am Tarian Mareick and it seems like you have met Cecily. Though the banter may be confusing, it is most interesting." He smiled at him.
Cecily cocked her head charmingly to the side as her smirk turned sweet. "Oh really." She seemed to float closer. "That is exactly what I was talking about. I know how you worship that moon of yours. What image were you thinking I was talking about?" She was closer to him and looked at him with wide amber eyes. A fox-like look came to her face as she peered innocently at him. She had a delightful scent about her, one sweet and soft, but teasing, one could never tell what made that perfume.
"Cecily, that is enough." Cecily stepped back by Tarian's side, but her gaze never broke from Aeryn's. Tarian sighed at Cecily. Though she was willful, she listened to him. It had taken a lot to gain that over Cecily, and he still didn't know why she did. All he was glad of is that she did. "Oh a long time chap." He turned his attention to Aeryn. "Once you figure out how to trust Cecily, it is something you never can do without. " He lowered his voice, "Be careful, once she decides to become close to someone, the victim cannot escape, nor will it want to. She has a strange way about her. " Cecily seemed to brighten at this, though besides this she acted as if she did not hear it. Tarian let his voice return to normal, "Her tea is rather good. My word as an Englishmen. It puts my country to shame. Just make sure you are on her good side before you take a sip. "

"I'm afraid the publisher and the book are not one in the same. It is the author and the book that are one in the same. Where the author might have dreamt of a cover with all of the beautiful colors under the sun adorning his masterpiece, the publisher did not have such a vision because the masterpiece was not his own." He then gave her a slight smirk, "But to conclude on this point, sometimes it is for the best since the publisher sees the vanity in beauty. It will all fade away one day. What is beauty when old age has desecrated it? And too often are beautiful things all too aware of their beauty. It spoils their nature."
"Pleasure to meet you, Tarian. I'm afraid that our acquaintance lies merely on the fact that we both love a good argument, and intellectual conversation is not short at hand. You are welcome to join us when we have finally clarified our topic."
Aeryn looked at her as she inched closer. He inhaled and then stopped dead in his tracks. He had to stop himself from pursing his lips. She was way too close. Only when Tarian had called her off was he able to finally breathe again. He then gave her a stern look and said in a completely emotionless tone, "Who knows what fools see at night? More than half of them have been driven insane no doubt." He then smirked slightly before it disappeared, "After all, scary things tend to come out at night, don't they?"
Aeryn raised an eyebrow, "Trust indeed. I would certainly be hesitant to taste one of those teas. She uses the word rather liberally, I have gathered. But if you attest to their excellence, then I should be at least a little more willing." Aeryn was becoming rather interested with this mans mind. He was debating on whether or not to strike up a bit of fun with Cecily or with Tarian. He decided that since he had already tried Cecily, he wanted to try Tarian. Someone new was an exciting prospect. Anything that he had squeezed into Cecily's mind to give him a vague idea was removed and all of his concentration was focused on Tarian. He would keep talking, and as they spoke, he would slowly and barely noticeably eek his way into Tarian's mind. Tarian might have noticed it, but it would have taken a great amount of concentration to get him out.

"I saw they are all tied up together. Without the author the book could not come to being, without the publisher, the book wouldn't be seen. It is the authors duty to convey what he wishes to the publisher. Usually a choice is given to the author, for the cover. Sometimes what the author wants is not always for the best." Then she mirrored his smirk, "Beauty does not always fade, sometimes it grows. When used properly the rose attracts the bees to live and repels others that would harm it. One must find the balance between the dangerous and the beautiful. Without the balance one side is always found lacking." She looked down, "But as you have said this point has been concluded."
Tarian laughed at Aeryn's invitation to join. "That I wouldn't do. I know Cecily a bit to well to join, and you seem to be doing amiably. Though if you need someone to spot you I will be willing to jump in."
"True, that white beauty that you were speaking of is said to have strange powers." When he mentioned scary things she just raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? I haven't seen that before. I'm guessing you have considering your knowledge in this area." She smirked, "Tell me was it a big bad monster that frightened you?" Her eyes glinted slightly.
Tarian laughed and held up his hands, "Riddles, the air is full of them.' Her looked at Aeryn, 'Everyone who is wise is careful when Cecily makes her teas. You learn how to know if they are bad or not." He smiled, "It's rather easy really." He glanced at Cecily before looking back at the man. "You must stop by sometime and join us for a cup. I'm sure Cecily wouldn't mind. " There was no affirmation of this statement, but rather a glare pointed in his direction. He ignored this look and winked at Aeryn. It almost seemed to say, 'You may push her buttons, but I know the code of how to push the right ones.' It was true. The bond with Cecily and Tarian was strong. He knew her better than any living person did. There was a reason for that of course, and he considered himself honored to know her. She was invigorating to be around. One could feel safe around her, if they just held that one key, the one key that was a major one in understanding her. But if you broke the key once, you would never be let in again, nor would you be given the chance to.

"Against women, how does any man know if he is doing amiably or not?" Aeryn said more to himself than to anyone. He was still trying to recover from Cecily getting too close. Why did people not understand personal space anymore? It was a lost thing apparently, although for Cecily, he was beginning to realize that an expectation of anything was more than likely to be a false hope. She was unpredictable because of her nature. Most people had to think aobut being unpredictable, but Cecily didn't, it was just who she was. Aeryn was finally starting to understand that.
"No, quite the contrary, Cecily. It happened to be nothing in particular, only the talk of vacant minds already lost in fear," Aeryn was explaining in a very riddled way that it had been he that had terrified the poor souls. His mind games were often lethal to the subjects that incurred his wrath. He was hoping that Tarian wouldn't figure out what he had meant. That might make it a little harder to play around with him.
As Tarian spoke of Cecily's tea's, Aeryn found himself starting to like this guy more and more. He had never intended to harm Tarian with his meddling, he rarely did with his experiments because they were usually the ones that had done nothing wrong. However, he was now thinking twice about playing around with Tarian. Sometimes his experimentation turned a good relationship, or what could have been a good relationship into a disaster. But, despite his thoughts of keeping away, his curiosity and desire to understand that little bit of Tarian that only his telepathy could uncover was too strong. It was like an addiction to a drug, a hard habit to break, and often one that you never wanted to break at all.
By now, Aeryn was knee deep into Tarians mind. He was impressed. The Englishman was fairly organized. He seemed a little bit confused at the moment, but considering the conversation that was going on, he could hardly blame the fellow. He and Cecily were being too cryptic currently for anyone but them to make any sense of it. Aeryn soon began to fish around a little bit more. There were a few thoughts that were right on hand, but they didn't really interest Aeryn. What interested him was his past with Cecily. Now he just had to find that past and push his way through whatever it might have been. After he had found what he wanted to, then he might start having fun with Tarian, depending on what was going on at the time. Tarian might have felt this, but it would have felt more like a head ache, or as though something were simply out of place.
Aeryn divided his mind in half every time that he spoke, so he started to become very cryptic in his speech, simply for the sake of saving his brain power, "How did you meet Cecily, Tarian? It seems an unlikely friendship." He was hoping that his question would bring to mind some memories from Tarian, whether or not he voiced them, Aeryn would be able to access them easier that way.

Cecily just smiled at Aeryn speaking to himself. She didn't think she needed to push this point further. Instead she decided to enjoy the power she held over him. It was one that beautiful women always hold over men. She enjoyed being amused by their reactions to her floating by as she cast an amber gaze over her shoulder. As he mentioned the vacant minds Cecily also chose to remain silent, instead fixed him with a glowing stare where her eyes danced and the amber depths appeared endless.
Her sharp eyes shifted over to Tarian he seemed to have a slightly strained look on his face. "Tarian?"
He seemed distant for a moment before snapping to attention and turning to her. "Yes Cecily? Sorry dear girl, a headache seemed to have popped up. I haven't had one in a long while it seems. Perhaps I should lay off the tea for a bit."
Cecily's eyes slid over to Aeryn, who seemed to be paying more and more attention to her comrade. She didn't like this. One bit.
"When I met Cecily? hmm..." A couple of random scenes flashed through his head, but they were soon gone. What Aeryn probably saw was a young girl crying in the rain, with blood all over her hands and shirt. "That is something-"
"That you have no buisness knowing!" Cecily leaped between the two and her gaze turned from glowing to burning. Leaning forward her voice lowered to a hiss. "You are in his mind aren't you? Don't deny it. You have to be. Tarian never gets headaches. Ever. Are you so much a coward that you can't ask questions straight up but go weaseling around in others minds to get what they don't wish to reveal or to look deeper to see what details they left out? You called me a fox, but I believe you are more of one than you think. "

Aeryn almost grimmaced when when he saw that his handiwork had been felt. Tarian was feeling his presence in his mind, he just didn't know that was what he was feeling. Aeryn was disguising his powers well, but not well enough o avoid all notice. He thought of concentrating even more on that so that it would lessen the pain for Tarian, but he couldn't do that. He had to keep himself divided and that drew his powers in too many directions. He just couldn't muster that much brain power. Doing this was hard enough.
Aeryn got what he wanted when he saw the flashes of the girl crying in the rain. It was just enough to make him want more. He took hold of the memory with a firm grasp. Tarian would have found that he was having a hard time forgetting that picture because Aeryn was forcing his mind to keep it up front. Studying the picture, Aeryn wanted to dive deeper, but before he could, Cecily popped into the picture rather abruptly. He looked at her with cold blue eyes, distant and unfeeling.
She was so protective of this man that it made Aeryn even more curious. Just what had this guy done? How on earth had he managed to wrap Cecily around his finger so? He knew that Cecily wasn't going to like his answer, but it was the truth and it was simply what was going to be. Aeryn had never been one to back down and he wasn't going to start now.
"I don't intend to deny it, Cecily," he answered her in just as low a voice as hers. "I am in his mind, and I have no intention of coming out. I'm not a coward," his words had an extra amount of bite in those last words. He didn't like being called a coward. "I am asking questions, if you didn't notice, I simply get more information with those questions this way than I would by just asking." He took a step closer to her and became very menacing, his voice becoming even lower, "Look Cecily, I do what I do to people so that I can become better in my trade. If you don't want to be an experiment then don't invite me next time. When Tarian figures it out, if he wants me gone, then I'll leave, but until then, I will continue to use whomever and whatever I find to hone my skills. Only a fool would leave their powers to waste away." He then went back to where he had been and said to her on a final note, "One day, just one day, you might be glad for my skills."

Cecily's eyes seemed to come alive with more fury than one could imagine. She didn't back down from him coming closer. Instead she just hissed more. With lightning like movements she slapped him across the face. "You are asking for details one does not wish to give. You are a backstabbing chicken winged wolf.." She pulled back some and continued, "Then use some other person then my friend I don't mind being your own little experiment. But if you really want to become better with your trade than actually tussle with someone who can challenge you." When he mentioned her being glad for his skill Cecily just clenched her fists. "Let him go."
Tarian felt the memory stay in the for front of his mind. He tried to push it away but found it harder than usual. Something wasn't right. Cecily's sudden change had escaped his attention until he heard a slap. Looking up concern welled in his mind as the memory was forgotten. "Cecily! What are you doing?" Then he turned to Aeryn, "What did you do?" Cecily never struck without reason and this was the most angry he had seen her in a long time. "Will someone please tell me what is going on here? "

"He was about to give them before you stepped in. It seemed he had no trouble with the idea, but you hardly gave him an opportunity to say anything. Perhaps I wouldn't dig so much if you gave me more of an opportunity to speak with him."
Aeryn had barely minded the slap to his face. Sure it stung, but he had been expecting it. She was angry, angrier than she had probably been in a while, but Aeryn found that he didn't care at the moment. She had been playing with him, now it was his turn, and he had finally found something that she actually treasured. He continued to looked at her icily.
"And who are you suggesting? What makes you think that your friend can offer nothing? Is he so weak that you fear I might find no challenge in him? Cecily, that is why I do what I do. There is always some sort of challenge with each new person that I try. It is what makes this whole life interesting. People are uniquely different, they respond in different ways, and they are prone to different things. I simply learn more about how they respond than anything. However, I see with you it is simply easier for me to threaten something precious to you in the smallest of ways and you fly off. What a poor response Cecily." He sounded chiding. If she wanted to get inside his mind and try and trap him there, keep him enamored, or play some other trick that she had used on someone else before, that was fine. Save it for another day when she was still angry with him. It would be a nice way for her to cool off. Right now, though, Aeryn was quite content to investigate Tarian. Apparently this man hadn't had much experience with Telepaths. That was what enchanted Aeryn so, because people responded so differently when they had never crossed with a telepath before. Would Tarian be scared, or would he be strong? Would he back away and try to shut his mind down, or would he open up further in an attempt to avoid conflict? There were so many possibilities.
Aeryn's eyes had been glued to Cecily's, but when Tarian finally woke up from his daze, Aeryn's bright blue eyes shot to him. He became very indifferent with Tarian as well, already having become so with Cecily.
He was not going to explain to Tarian what was going on out loud, that would be ridiculous. So he began to push his own thoughts into Tarians mind. "What did I do? Well, that is quite simple. I entered you mind without you knowing and Cecily figured it out. She feels as though I am threatening you and is currently very bent out of shape about it. What do you think Tarian? Am I a threat to you currently?"

"I wouldn't have minded if you had just asked him, but you not only asked him but were in his mind so you could force him to tell you something if he was unwilling and so you could draw it from him no doubt. I have dealt with more telepaths then you think."
"No he is not weak he is inexperienced in this area, and I don't want something like what you did to Neron to happen to him." Her eyes narrowed, "He means more to me than you think you fiend. If you do anything to hurt him. You will regret it for the rest of your life." She gritted her teeth. "I'll make sure of that." Her eyes narrowed and then widened into a charming innocent look. Her luscious lips turned into a smile. In a blink of an eye she swiped a stray hair out of his eye before waltzing back. The innocence left her eyes and they narrowed again. She was watching him.
Tarian's eyes widened as he heard a voice in his head. He shifted his eyes to Cecily who was glaring at Aeryn and then turned to the man herself. It had to be him. Cecily couldn't read minds, he didn't know the full extent of her powers, but he was pretty sure she couldn't do that. His mind shifted slightly as he processed what he was being told, but an over reigning calmness. Sure there was a feeling of uneasiness, for he didn't know what this man had seen or if he had toyed with anything. "Cecily knows you a bit better than I do chap, so I think I would trust her a bit more than you, if you don't mind. I may not consider you a threat currently, but let me say that I am not blind to the fact that you could become a fearsome foe if need be. I would appreciate if you would get out of my mind though. Cecily...doesn't seem to...happy. If I can give you some advice, sir, I would say to not get on her bad side. It's not pretty. I would rather not feast on your flesh tonight or any night.
