The sky was a lovely shade of muted gray[very pretty; it reminded Ein of a quarter, just less shiny]; the sun was absolutely nowhere to be seen. If it had just been cloudy, Ein would have been thrilled. Have you ever stared at a lamp with its shade off for a prolonged period of time? Did your eyes sting and ache afterwards? Any blurred vision? Well, multiply that times two and you should get the way Ein has felt for the past week. Yeah, eyes designed for seeing in low light levels were a pain to have when the sun decided to be obnoxiously bright, with or without sunglasses. But, [as the "if" had implied] the weather was not only cloudy. It was also raining. Ein can normally predict rain with good accuracy. Stiff joints meant precipitation within the hour [or that Ein was in need of a wind-up, but that has nothing to do with the weather]. This time, however, Ein was caught off-guard. The sight of the wiry girl sprinting through the streets of Sol was probably priceless, but Ein was no where near laughing. Water equals oxidation which equals rust. Rust equals problems. Ein, like most people, does not like problems. Ein bolted into The Black Boar before the problems had a chance to kick in. The door slammed with a bang, and Ein slid to the floor, gasping. It had not run very far, but adrenaline was making it hard for Ein to catch its breath. Ein pressed its back firmly against the door and stared at the floor in attempt to keep its skin in place. After staying like that for about four minutes, the clockwork creature stood up. Stiffly[very stiffly], Ein made itself over to the bar, sat down on one of the stools, and started rifling around in its back pocket for its wallet. "My deepest apologies for that." Ein smiled at the bartender and placed a ten dollar bill on the table. "What can that get me?" [Ein had no need for any form of drink, but it felt rude not to buy something after what had happened]. The bartender handed Ein a rag, said it was free of charge and to do yourself a favor and wipe some of that water off. Ein listened to his advice and started to clean off its sunglasses without taking them off.
