Yeah, I killed that character, but they got themselves in that situation all on their own

Of course she could call him Shou. It didn’t matter to him if she shortened it. As long as it was his name. His first name.
”I don’t mind ‘Shou’.”
He waited for a second for her to answer his question. But she didn’t. Instead, she just looked at him like he was crazy or something. Wait… they weren’t dating? But… he had kissed her… and… did she really think that it was a kiss between friends under the stars while fireworks shot in the sky? That meant nothing?
She was kidding herself.
He had never ever kissed anyone, but he had kissed her. It hadn’t even been something he thought about before hand, just… he had kissed her without thinking. Which said even more about his feelings for her! He almost never did anything on impulse. But he had that night, and she still thought it was nothing?
Wait… did she? Maybe she did think it had been something, since she was telling him to formally ask her to date him. Did she just want the finality and properness of it all? If that was the case…
”Alright.”
He smiled at her and took her hand. Kissing her fingers, he looked into her eyes.
”Would you give me the amazing honor of being my girlfriend?” | |

Ho. Ly. Hell.
W-wait, he wasn't supposed to think she was serious! He was supposed to laugh and correct himself and then he would re-ask the question and then she would answer and then they would go get ice cream and--
Hold on. This did sound almost like a date. It was no wonder Shou thought that it was one.
It wasn't that Shou had thought that this was a date. It was that Gunner thought that this WASN'T a date. It was pretty clear that it wasn't just two pals going for a night on the town, but it was a date.
Her first impulse was to run away from him. She didn't like this. It was just that... her whole run in with Hendrix hadn't exactly evaporated into thin air. Even though he was the one that helped her, he was one of the few guys she wasn't suspicious of. So for him to ask this of her aroused those previously non-existent suspicions.
But she pushed that away. It wasn't Shou who had hurt her. In fact, he had helped her more than most friends would have in his case. He was trustworthy.
Before she answered she looked into his eyes, as she had done when he had pinned her after their fight. She searched for that bit of malice. That hurtful intention. She saw none, and let her body relax.
She smiled. Now that she thought about him like that he was a rather handsome man.
"I would be happy to be your girlfriend."

So maybe she did like him. Not only did she give him the chance to ask her out but she had agreed to it too. He hadn’t really expected her not to, but it still made him happier than he had previously thought it would. Today was now a really good day.
Instead of letting go of her hand, he held it. If she minded then she could say something. He hoped she didn’t hate it, because he quite liked it. Her hand was small and warm. Delicate, he thought, but he knew the strength behind it. No matter what he could never allow himself to underestimate her, for she was definitely a match for his skills. And he for hers.
”Check out and then to… ice cream?”
He wasn’t sure if he could have milk, or cream, or chocolate, but she liked it, and that was what mattered. He just hoped the store sold meat, preferably raw; cooked meat did just about the same thing to him stomach that non-meats did. Instead of immediate effect, he would be sick the next day. But he didn’t have to tell her that.
Wait.
They were dating now. That meant… did it really mean he had to tell her about stuff like that? He supposed so, since she couldn’t really cook him anything if she didn’t know what he could eat. In fact, she really couldn’t cook him anything at all. He couldn’t eat cooked foods, typically. Hard candy was the one exception he had found so far.
He would tell her, definitely. Later.
