Damion listened to her explanation with understanding. He knew what she meant by wanting to ignore the bad things that had happened. If he had been able to do that with Edwards death then maybe none of this would have taken place. Eventide would have left and not bothered them if he had not gotten so bent out of shape. Although it was true that she did deserve every bit of anger and pain that had come to her, but Damion still didn't like the thought of how things might have been different. That was always what haunted him the most about the past was looking back and seeing how things might have been different, how he could have acted differently, said something else, or thought something kinder and then harsh words, regrettable actions, and pain could have prevented. He always felt guilty every time something like that happened.
As Miriel continued to rest her head on his chest he noticed that she was starting to show signs of being more than a little tired. He also was tired, but he could tell that Miriel was really about to fall asleep on him. Not that he would have minded if she had, but he would have felt rather negligent in his care of her.
"I thought that I was always nice to you unless I was not really being myself, then I have no excuse for any cruelty that might have occurred, but really Miriel, on a daily basis, I thought I was always kind to you!" he was speaking in mock indignation, "I guess I shall just have to try harder."
"I am glad that I found you too, in every way, my dear. However, I can see now that you have not been sleeping well. Am I right? You seem to sound more and more like you are suffering from lack of sleep with every passing second."

Miriel smiled at his mock indignation, "Yes, you will." She pulled back to look at him with eyes sparkling with mischief. "You can start by arranging something with just you and me, perhaps." She laughed. When he mentioned her sleeping she looked at him with an innocent face. " I'm not -" She was interrupted by a yawn that forced its way out. She covered her mouth and blushed slightly and sighed, "My body betrays me..."
It was true what Damion had said, she was becoming more aware of how tired she was with each passing second. No doubt he was tired as well, after all he had been the wounded one. It was time to leave, yet she didn't want to leave his arms, she didn't want to leave the fortress he had become to her. The sensation of peace had been rolling over her like gentle waves. For once Miriel liked the thought of being immersed in a sea of peace and an ocean of love. That element, which usually caused her to shudder, was becoming a most tolerable one.
Loosing her arms about her neck she let them fall to his chest as she moved back. "I suppose I should go and rest, and you need to get rest." Yet after she said this she didn't move any farther away from him. Her eyes studied his and got lost in the watery depths. Perhaps her counter element wasn't so bad after all. She blinked, snapping herself out of the trance as another sigh was heard. "Aish..." She looked down as her voice became a murmur, "I just don't want to..."

Damion raised an eyebrow at her, "Thinking of dates already, are we? You're not demanding at all," he smiled after this and then added, "I suppose that I could find some romantic location for just the two of us to have fun."
"More power to it for giving me more support. You know lying is something you are not very good at Miriel," Damion then added as a side thought, "Not that that is a bad thing. I want to be able to trust you."
When Miriel started to back away, Damion wanted to pull her closer and not let her go anywhere, bu then he would have been contradicting himself. He mournfully let her step away, but was glad that she didn't go too far.
He chuckled lightly when she said that she didn't want to leave, "Yes, my dear, I know. I really don't want you to leave either, but if I were to prevent you from getting the rest that you need I would have a hard time forgiving myself. My only comfort is that there will be other times, lest something should happen to one of us, which I doubt."
He knew that it would be best if he left first, then Miriel would have no other reason to stay here. He pulled closer to her, just long enough to place one goodbye kiss on her lips, and the whisper, "Sleep well, my love." With that he turned and walked away, a relaxed smile playing on his lips. He was glad to have Miriel back.

Miriel's face light up at Damion's words. " I can't wait then" To spend more time with Damion, to be alone with him sounded liked a slice of heaven. Perhaps next time the both of them would be strong. Though, there was something about being weak. Right now both were relying on each other and there was something worthwhile in that, both felt needed. Lying, that was something Miriel had trouble with. She was such an open book it was amusing. Sometimes she tried so hard, and sometime times she pulled it off. " I have been told that." Her gaze sparkled into his, " You will have no problem trusting me, I'm so clumsy in the stoic area that I would trip before i even got close to achieving it." Rest, yes that is what she needed. To sleep, to slumber...Those words were so peaceful sounding and welcoming. As much as she wanted that she wanted to be with Damion more. What he spoke was true, there would be other times. Right now, if she didn't get sleep she would get sick, and her body was demanding her pay attention in this area. Relief, though rewarding, can drain you more than the event can. Miriel still couldn't bring herself to leave, though she was trying very hard, she even managed to start to pick up a foot to move backwards. It was then that Damion embraced her and planted a kiss on her lips. The unexpected kiss caused her cheeks to turn rosy as his words caused her heart to warm up. When he turned and walked away, if he had glanced back, he would have seen her, hand touching her lips in delight, cheeks glowing, and eyes watching his fading figure. A little laugh passed her lips and her heart swelled with love. This time she let it well, and flames played on her figure. Damion was far enough away that it wouldn't effect him. The before long fire consumed her figure and nothing but a bird remained. Her fiery wings opened, and her body was soon soaring into the sky. She looked like a drop of the sun had fallen, for instead of being the usual red she was mostly made of white fire laced with red fingers of flame. It was fitting for her to leave so. Miriel had unleashed her anger here in her natural form, and now she soared the sky, ending the conflict in the place it had started. The mountains no longer echoed with pain, sorrow, and regret, but glowed with the memory that had just been made. ~The End~
